The Practical Nerd Podcast: Episode 6 – Selling My Zune & The Power Of Simplicity

  • Sharebar

In today’s podcast, I talk about selling my beloved Zune for a simpler MP3 player and the value of cutting back and simplifying your life. I also give more shout-outs to listeners. If you’re a listener, you should probably listen. Drop some feedback in the comments!

I can't believe how many podcasts I listen to. It's ridiculous. In regards to voice recorder – my iphone has a voice recorder – and was only $99. I can stream podcasts anywhere, stream pandora radio, play mp3s, play videos, download movies, games, etc. etc. etc. Granted I need to pay for a data plan with ATT, but I don't need an mp3 player anymore – just my phone.

However, I agree with you about simplicity. In a product driven world it is easy to be overtaken by the mentality that you “Need what you want” rather than “wanting what you need”. We are materialistic, which I would greatly attribute to constant marketing and being told repeatedly how much better your life will be if you get the next new thing. It's sad really, yet I cannot say I am not guilty of wanting new things on a daily basis.

Awesome, Mike! And one could say you simplify things by keeping all your
stuff on one device. Not my cup of tea, but different strokes for different
folks (does anybody still use that expression?).
