Killing Email: How and Why I Ditched My Inbox [Zen Habits]

Leo Babauta managed to implement a system to drastically reduce his email communication. It's no secret that email can become a gigantic time-suck, so why can't we just get rid of it? Here are a few things that are replacing email:

Twitter. Yup, it's still hyped up the wazoo. But Twitter is developing into the most powerful form of communication online. Loads of people are using it to connect and communicate – in real-time.

Google Docs. Need to collaborate on a document? Instead of emailing each other back and forth with edits, just have a single document with access on Google Docs – edit the same document together. You can also create documents and share them with people; no one will need to download a document to read it or print it.

Social Networks. In most cases, Facebook messaging has replaced email in my circles. Send out mass invites, share pictures, and swap stories and smart-ass comments on your favorite social network. It's just easier. Plus, in a professional setting, people can create their own social networks.
