It's the worst part of the year: your kids are home, they have nothing to do, and it's up to you to keep them entertained. Whether you work all day or not, having the kids sitting around at home can be a dangerous thing. In fact, just writing it makes me long for the days of being a kid, spending the summers around the house generally getting into trouble.

So what do you do? Today, you buy them another video game, or the latest gadget so they can sit in their rooms by themselves and putz around for hours. Wise Bread put together a fantastic list of ways to keep your kids entertained without breaking the bank. One of my favorite creative ideas:

16. Looking for old-school games on the Internet. My daughter Googled "marbles" and found a lot of marble games. She and a friend printed out the instructions and played marbles.

Not too shabby. There are active ideas, a lot of great social ideas (get your kids hanging out with other people!), and all of them are reasonably priced or free. Take a look at the link above. In fact, even if you don't have kids, there might be a halfway decent idea in there for you, too!
