Big personal finance blog Get Rich Slowly just released a long list of personal finance applications that you can use to manage your expenses. It notes that, as Microsoft Money closes its door, readers are looking for replacements. If my post on the complete money management system just didn't sound like something you wanted to do, there are several great options in this list as well. However, be forewarned: using a piece of software puts you at risk for undesired upgrades or changes. My system protects you from having to migrate from software to software.
From what I’ve seen, these apps are a lot alike: the desktop programs offer similar feature sets, and the online tools are all close cousins. There’s not a lot to differentiate them. Wesabe has a great community, Mint tracks investment accounts, and moneyStrands offers a Spanish-language option. Each program offers something unique.
That said, there are plenty of great, useful options in this list, including some that aren't known particularly well. I, for one, have used ClearCheckbook in the past. And while I liked its simplicity, it upgraded to a user interface that I was very much not fond of, but I know plenty of people who still use it and love it. Check out the list!
